friday faves: 5.6.11

my weeks are always stressful, increasingly so. it's hard to keep my stress from seeping into this blog but i know it does - almost always on fridays as that's when i have to prepare for the true hurricane of stress: my store being open on the weekends (a.k.a. no sitting, no eating, no stop to the talking, no rest from the lecturing, virtually no sleep). this is a common fact amongst my friends. i've lost many of them due to my demanding work schedule and it has been difficult to justify this to myself. i just have to keep saying that while they are off having fun, they are likely racking up debt and struggling to stay afloat in this economy. i may not make a lot of money and i may not get a lot of sleep, but i am gaining incredible experience virtually unheard of from anyone my age (hellooo - CHINA?!). so it's worth it. it has to be worth it or else i'll lose my mind.

so what does this have anything to do with friday faves? it has to do with something that happened tuesday of this week. i spent my day off on monday in bed, flipping through bridal magazines (because really, i can't stop working even on days off) and feeling very lonely. i was also texting a long-time friend who is currently stationed in the army in north carolina. unlike my now-gone friends here, he has stayed there for me. he made me laugh, made me think, made me feel like things will get better. those were his words: things will get better. he promised that they would get better the very next day even! of course i laughed. but then i got to work on tuesday and an hour in, the ups guy arrived...

bright & happy tiger lillies in a lovely pink vase! they actually arrived still as buds - this picture was taken one day later when they really became to blossom and fill up the whole office with the most beautiful scent ever.

and he was right, it made my day better! it actually helped me through what ended up being a very difficult work day. funny how little things can make such a huge difference... but that's why i started this blog - to fill my daily life with the little pretty things we can too easily forget.

but without further ado, more images for this week's friday's faves . . .

{random note: i just NOW realized i forgot a friday faves last week! many, many apologies - i could've sworn i wrote one but somehow it disappeared! hopefully this post, full of pretty, pretty images & great giveaways, makes up for it! can you ever forgive me?}

idea: paintbrush vase

simple, fun, unique.  definitely my style! unfortunately i don't have directions on how to make this but i'm sure it's incredibly easy.  i mean, i bet it could be recreated with paintbrushes (either old or found at a dollar store -- or both), a simple vase (again, either found around the house, at a dollar store, or Goodwill), a hot glue gun, and some twine.  a simple project for a simply lovely vase ~

originally from country living [via ritzy bee blog]

and now for a personal note . . .

i'm considering starting a second blog for more personal posts.  i just think it would be out of place to write about book reviews and personal struggles on pretty things since it is a blog for, well, pretty things!  the question is: would anyone read it?  would anyone care??  i'm not necessarily interesting and i'm certainly not an exceptional writer, but i do love to write and love to give myself new challenges, which this would certainly be!

your thoughts??

design: chic & sleek dining room

there's just something about this image that draws me into the design...

LOVE:
-the simplicity of design. i'm one to over design, over decorate, but this dining room's sophistication lays in its simplicity. lovely.
- simple black chairs. perfect.
- black & white with pop of pink. a personal fave color combo.
- shades of pink in flowers. just adds something extra.
- sliver of pink chair in corner -- makes me want to see more & i know i would loove the "more"
- silver vases on top of cabinet. pop!
- intricate chandelier.  duh!

design: dreamy & woodsy bedroom

there is so much i love about this romantic cabin bedroom - the wood panel ceiling that matches the wood panel walls, the many windows, the wood vase... oh, & the dreamiest woodsy bed ever!

i'm fairly certain it's impossible not to love this bed.  it is truly effortlessly romantic.  & one of the most incredible canopies i've ever seen.

i have no idea where this bedroom is, but i really hope it is: a) nearby; and b) a bed & breakfast i can go visit.

sigh.

i want: object frames

lots of love for these simple & fab frames.
i would put daisies in the vase, my beloved bible on the mini-shelf, and my fave cream scarf [all the way from turkey, a present from my bestie/other half]

although incredibly out of my [strict] bujay, the amazing frames can be purchased here.
thank you to charlotte of lottie loves for showing me these.

to do: DIY decor

I'm a fairly crafty girl and I'm also on what the roomies and I like to call a "bujay" [think "budget" pronounced with a terrible fake-French accent].  The natural solution to overcoming this decorating obstacle is creating my own unique designs.  Here is a sampling of DIY projects I have found, to be filed away for when I have the time and drive to make them.

tea cup candle

vintage wallpaper coasters:

~~I'm super excited to tackle these projects and when I finally do, I'll definitely post pictures!
